Supporting Young People with Learning Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health Needs into Employment

Lambeth Council is launching its 2026/27 Pre-Supported Internship Programme in partnership with Orchard Hill College, creating a structured pathway for young people aged 16 to 24 with learning disabilities and/or autism who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan.

Designed for those who may not yet be ready for a full-time Supported Internship, apprenticeship or employment, the programme offers a supportive environment where participants can build confidence, develop workplace skills and strengthen their emotional wellbeing. Attending three days per week, young people will receive tailored support to help them progress towards sustainable employment opportunities.

A key feature of the programme is its holistic, wraparound approach. Working alongside specialist partners, participants will benefit from person-centred support that focuses on both employability and wellbeing.

Juvenis will deliver sessions focused on social safety, helping young people understand community and online risks while developing strategies to stay safe. The Skill Spot will provide dedicated wellbeing support through initiatives such as Well-being Wednesdays, promoting emotional resilience, mindfulness and positive coping strategies.

Together, these partners will help participants build the confidence, resilience and skills needed to take their next steps towards Supported Internships, apprenticeships and employment.

The programme reflects Lambeth Council's commitment to creating inclusive pathways into work and ensuring young people receive the support they need to achieve their career goals.
