Women and Industry Leaders Came Together to Explore Careers and Champion Diversity in Construction

This month, in partnership with Vistry Group, the Women into Construction event brought together women, employers and industry professionals for a day of inspiration, networking and career exploration within the construction sector.

Attendees heard from inspiring female guest speakers and expert panellists who shared their career journeys, experiences and insights into the industry. Participants also had the opportunity to explore career pathways and connect with employers and organisations including HG Construction, Peabody, Smart Works and many others from across the sector.

The event highlighted the importance of representation, mentorship and creating a more diverse workforce within construction. Through engaging discussions and networking opportunities, attendees gained valuable insight into the wide range of careers available across the industry and the support available to help them succeed.

Reflecting on the day, Social Value Panellist Desiree Blamey from Considerate Constructors said:

“Seeing construction represented for women in construction, in Brixton, is so powerful. We're always trying to encourage a more diverse workforce. This is an opportunity to say to employers to do better for their people, so that these types of people want to come into our amazing industry.”

Fellow panellist Julian Sanz from McConnell added:

“One of the biggest things people can do for women is champion them in business, create opportunities, open doors and mentor them. To any women looking to get into construction, just take the opportunities.”

The event demonstrated the value of collaboration between employers, industry leaders and community partners in creating accessible pathways into construction careers for women across Lambeth and beyond.

By bringing together employers, role models and aspiring professionals, the event helped inspire the next generation of talent and reinforced the construction sector's commitment to building a more inclusive and representative workforce.
