The recent Project SEARCH Supported Internship Assessment Day brought together a range of partners from Lambeth's programmes, including Lambeth Council’s Skills & Employment and SEND Teams, alongside host businesses such as NHS England, Kings College Hospital, and employability providers Kaleidoscope and Unity Works. The event was held at the Karibu Education Centre, supporting local businesses within Lambeth.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) attended to assist parents and carers with any benefits-related questions and concerns, ensuring comprehensive support for families involved.

Event Highlights:

·       Assessment Process: The assessment day was designed to understand the skills and support needs of young people, ensuring they are placed on the most suitable programme where they can flourish, gain further knowledge, and prepare for permanent paid roles.

·       Peer Interaction: Current interns attended the event to share their experiences and answer questions, providing applicants with valuable insights from their peers. This peer-to-peer interaction is crucial as it offers real-life perspectives and helps future interns understand the programme better.

·       Community Support: Held at the Karibu Education Centre, the event also played a role in supporting local businesses within Lambeth.

Testimonials:

·       Carolina Bastidas, who accompanied Abigail:

"The session was very helpful; I was quite impressed by all the information we got from the event and the encouragement for the kids and all our children. I’m very grateful and happy to be here today."

·       Asma Ahmad, Director of ESOL Inclusive Learning at Lambeth College:

"Today has been heart-warming and inspiring to see such a range of candidates. It’s been wonderful to sit through the assessments with them and see how focused and eager they are."

·       Serina Forrest, Supported Employment Partnership Coordinator at Lambeth Council:

"It’s really nice to see all of the partners from our Project Search Supported Internships working together and making assessments of the programmes that will be launched in 2024."

·       Adela, one of the candidates:

"It was a bit stressful, but you calm down and just go through it. I would like to recommend this programme to other fellow candidates alike."

·       Sarah Hamilton, DFN Project Search Programme Specialist:

"What’s been amazing about today is seeing three different businesses all come together for this large assessment day. The young people being able to find out more about the different jobs available has been wonderful, and everyone’s just done incredibly. I can’t wait for the next session."

The Project SEARCH Supported Internship Assessment Day was a remarkable event that highlighted the power of community collaboration and the importance of providing young people with the support they need to succeed. We look forward to the continued success of these programmes and the positive impact they will have on our community.
