In 2011, Brixton People's Kitchen (BPK) was born from a passionate vision to bridge the gaps in social cohesion and create spaces for local residents to gather, share ideas, and tackle food waste head-on. Witnessing the staggering amount of domestic food waste, the team introduced community lunches, transforming car parks, green spaces, schools, and any available gathering spots into vibrant hubs of cooking and conversation.

Over the years, BPK's journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. They've cooked up ingenious solutions, like a mobile kitchen on a bicycle, hosted numerous community pop-ups, and even operated a thriving cafe. Now, they've set their sights on a new and exciting chapter, slated for later in 2023, with the launch of their shop and community café on Lambeth Walk.

The Lambeth-based social enterprise has worked tirelessly to prepare their new location, and in August, Lambeth played host to contractors, who joined a site visit to assess the renovation progress and extend their support. This open day was a testament to the incredible journey BPK has embarked upon, showcasing the progress made and unveiling the exciting plans that will undoubtedly prove that "sharing tastes better."

As Kemi and Fazela express their gratitude to everyone supporting this remarkable project, BPK continues to embody the spirit of community, food, and conversation, leaving an indelible mark on South London.

"It was great to hold the open day to give people the chance to view the progress we have made, and hear about the plans we have for showing Lambeth that sharing tastes better. Thank you to everyone who is supporting this exciting project and helping us to bring BPK back to the local community." — Kemi / Fazela
