We’re excited to share the success of our latest Pre-employment Construction Training (PET) programme, which ran from 23 September to 2 October, 2024. This initiative provided a fantastic opportunity for Lambeth residents to build skills and explore career pathways in construction.
A Great Start with Full Engagement
With 22 learners enrolled, we had such strong interest that we split the cohort into two groups to accommodate everyone. Already, 10 residents have successfully passed their CITB tests—a critical step towards gaining employment in construction. The remaining learners are eagerly awaiting their turn at the CITB test centre, and according to our training partner, Train2Work, every one of them is ready and well-prepared for success.
Employer Connections and Hands-on Experience
A key highlight of the programme was our Employer Day on 26 September, where participants had the chance to meet employers from MTVH and Countryside. They learned about job opportunities tied to the Clapham Park development and had their questions answered directly by the companies.
Site Visits to Get a Feel for the Industry
To give our learners practical, on-the-ground experience, we organized two site visits on 3 October:
- Thomas Sinden (Fenick Road site): Five residents attended a session led by Gareth, the Health and Safety Manager, which included an hour of training on health and safety followed by a guided site tour. This hands-on learning helped participants understand safety protocols and observe real-time operations.
- Multiplex: With the support of Gardner & Co, nine residents attended a training session on basic duct ventilation. They got to see demonstrations of duct ventilation leakage testing and even tried their hands at cutting and attaching metal tubes.
Stay tuned as we continue to support these residents in their journey toward meaningful careers in construction and beyond!
