From burnout and redundancy to renewed confidence
After experiencing burnout and redundancy, Gar joined Connect to Work in April 2026 to get support with finding employment, navigating recruitment and preparing for interviews.
Through one-to-one sessions with his Employment Specialist, Gar explored his strengths, career goals and the type of workplace that would suit him. The programme also helped him build confidence, understand workplace adjustments and overcome barriers to completing job applications.
Reflecting on his experience, Gar said:
“It gave me an hour a week where I could focus on employment, and my future.”
With ongoing support, Gar developed a clearer understanding of his values, strengths and support needs. He is now exploring opportunities in mental health and neurodiversity advocacy, coaching, teaching and sharing his lived experience.
Charlie Willis, the Employment Specialist who supported Gar through Connect to Work, said:
“It’s been a delight to work with Gar and see his confidence grow, give him time to reflect, and be a part of his journey.”
