Success Story

Perpetua's story

Perpetua was initially registered onto Connecting Communities by a previous colleague, who left the council. She was transferred to me where information, advice and guidance were provided. Perpetua applied for a role via Opportunity Lambeth for a role at Guys and St Thomas Hospital, where she was provided with support.

Perpetua undertook tailored job search and continuous employment and soft skills support, including building confidence, resilience, and motivation to secure employment and further her training. She has undertaken tailored job search sessions, where tailored and specific objectives are discussed and set, for Perpetua to achieve to bring her closer to her objective of securing full-time and sustainable employment.

Correspondence through different mediums has also been provided to identify any barriers to her objective and problem-solve to overcome these. Perpetua, through her challenging work and determination, has been successful in securing employment, where she was employed as a Nursing Assistant at Guys and St Thomas Hospital.

She has done everything asked of her, which has resulted in this positive outcome. As a result, Perpetua will need additional support, due to her informing us, that she is not entitled to recourse of public funds. Due to the fact that her circumstances have changed resulting in her securing employment; childcare will need to be provided to support her young child. Based on this, and a change in Perpetua’s circumstances, I supported Perpetua with a letter to the Home Office to reconsider their decision and allow her to recourse to public funds, as well as a change in her immigration status, due to her change in status of securing employment.

As a result, she was granted recourse to public funds which lowered her anxiety and stress levels, knowing her child would be looked after from a childcare perspective.

Perpetua was also provided with financial assistance, by way of a monthly travel card to ease some of her financial burden.

She stated,

I sincerely want to appreciate you and the Lambeth Community Team for all the support since registered and in searching for a job. And for your support throughout the job process. Mostly, thank you for the transport support, you don’t know how much that means to me. I am sincerely grateful. Thank you so much. I’m grateful. Thank you again.
