Monique Tomlinson first met with her case worker Roy Ramkali at a job centre event where she explained that she had been out of work for a short while, since 2022. She wanted to secure employment as an Executive Assistant/PA role, and whilst seeking for employment she was also supporting one of her parents who was facing health issues.
Monique was supported through 1-1 sessions, focusing on her CV and applications, as well as on increasing her confidence, resilience, and motivation. On occasions, they just had a “normal conversation” and talked generally about random topics. Monique also attended both in-house employability sessions, face-to-face and online; as well as further IAG sessions.
They also did 1-1 mock interview sessions when she secured interviews, proofreading her applications and personal statements. As soon as Roy received any roles via the Opportunity Lambeth jobs portal which were relevant to Monique, he forwarded them to her. On one occasion, a role for an Executive Assistant via the Berkeley Group was sent through to Roy and Monique's CV was sent, resulting in an interview, and then later securing employment.
Monique started her new role in May 2023 and was elated that she had overcome barriers to secure employment in her chosen field.
This is what Monique had to say about her case worker and the job programme:
As I sit down to write this article, my heart is filled with immense gratitude for the unwavering support that Roy has shown me, throughout my challenging journey of mental health struggles and unemployment. Your steadfast encouragement and understanding have played a pivotal role in helping me reclaim my sense of purpose and find my way back into the workforce.
When I found myself at my lowest point, grappling with the weight of depression and anxiety, you were there, extending a compassionate hand to pull me out of the abyss. In a world that often stigmatises mental health issues, you offered a safe space devoid of judgement. Your empathy and willingness to listen without reservation helped me navigate the darkest corners of my mind, offering a glimmer of hope when it seemed elusive.
Your mentorship was a catalyst for my personal and professional growth, enabling me to cultivate a renewed sense of self-worth and determination.
Today, as I reflect upon my journey, I am elated to share that I have emerged triumphant. The path was arduous, but with your unwavering support and my own perseverance, I secured a new job as an Executive Assistant via the Berkeley Group — an opportunity that aligns perfectly with my passions and aspirations. I cannot express how grateful I am for your role in this accomplishment. You have been instrumental in helping me regain my confidence and rebuild my life.
Through your kindness and compassion, you have undoubtedly touched the lives of many, just as you have touched mine.
