Maha attended her appointment with Connecting Communities and despite a career in HR, she wanted to undertake subsequent employment within the fitness and nutrition sector. She wanted to leave her previous sector to focus on herself and her wellbeing, balancing life, and work due to a previous issue she had earlier in her life.
During the meeting, we applied for a fitness role via Opportunity Lambeth and conversations were had with the employment engagement team regarding her new chosen vocation. Through research about courses and LMP Education were offering several courses which would benefit Maha and upskill her; improve her knowledge within the fitness and nutrition sector.
She was sent information regarding the NHS careers event, where we discussed that attending the event and speaking to NHS professionals; she could network and engage with professionals asking about opportunities whether voluntary or paid supporting patients with their wellbeing.
After providing information, advice and guidance from an employment and soft skills perspective, Maha applied for a role as a receptionist with the YMCA where she was successful. By securing employment with them, they said they will provide in house courses, focusing on fitness and nutrition. She is now undertaking a fitness instructor course as well as her role as a receptionist; thoroughly enjoying the role and has now found that work/life balance she was looking for.
Maha was provided with financial assistance and support; vouchers for professional attire and a monthly travelcard, where she was extremely appreciative, stating this will help her enormously.
Speaking to her when she collected the financial support, she said she was happier escaping the corporate world and doing something she is now passionate about, putting her dreams and needs first. Maha also stated she is more confident and happier, than before, which was evident, when self-reflection on the first meeting and subsequent sessions with her.
