Success Story

Ayesha's story

Ayesha had undertaken several courses at Morley College, Lambeth relating to the wellbeing and supporting of children in the educational sector, ICT, and sowing. Ayesha was interested in the Teaching Assistant employability sessions with me over a 4-week period in May 2023, where she interacted, participated, and embedded what was taught into her professional and personal circumstances. She is registered onto the Lambeth Council and CLF employment and training initiative, Connecting Communities, where she is receiving constant information, advice and guidance since commencing the provision.

Over those 4 weeks and ongoing support, I have got to know Ayesha and she has shown an enormous amount of tenacity, determination, and motivation to succeed for both her and her son. Based on the communication and correspondence from Ayesha; she came to the UK from Pakistan due to a volatile and aggressive situation from her ex-husband; she made the decision to come to the UK, with her son to start afresh. In Pakistan, she found the love for teaching and carried this forward to studying various courses centred on this in Lambeth.

Ayesha said,

I am feeling very good after taking the employability sessions. I have learnt so many new things by this course, like how to prepare a good CV, interview, transferable skills and covering letter. I was not aware about the details and techniques about all these but our tutor’s knowledge was amazing. He had full command in all these, his way of explaining was easy and informative as I explained so many things in myself about those I were aware that I have these abilities and I can use these skills in the other way too. Overall, it was a very good session. Thank you for giving me the chance to be part of this course.

Initially, when Ayesha came to the UK in February 2022, she struggled due to the language barrier; as well as adjusting to a new way of life in the UK. She undertook ESOL classes and after 6 months undertook Community Learning courses at Morley College, Stockwell Centre. During that time, she completed four qualifications promoting the wellbeing and teaching of children from September 2022 to February 2023.

During the Teaching Assistant employability classes, she clearly demonstrated a drive to succeed and was able to self-reflect on her own skills and abilities; with the future objective to apply this and help children once she becomes employed within the educational sector. She has also undertaken online soft skills sessions, including Self Awareness, where she was able to identify her strengths and self-reflect on how to further develop her skills and attributes. Ayesha has contributed to the London Borough of Lambeth, via volunteering with LEAP supporting other individuals who have faced hardships of their own; showing that she has succeeded and is a role model to inspire others via hardworking, success is achievable. She is also volunteering as a Parent Befriender; again, supporting others who may have faced the same hardships as herself.

Ayesha is also further volunteering at Brixton Youth Theatre and wishes to engage other asylum seekers to do the same, to gain confidence and resilience. Her future goal is to be a foster carer and embed her skills, knowledge, and experience to empower others in her charge.

Ayesha has contributed massively from a social value/impact to the lives and individuals of Lambeth, through courses, volunteering and wishes to give something back to support those in need in the London Borough of Lambeth.

Her story is an inspiration to others, where escaping from an unstable situation in Pakistan, arriving to a new country, studying, and empowering herself and others, is a testament to others; through self-awareness, resilience, and self-belief; anything is possible. Ayesha is an individual who will always help others from different communities with translation services for support and assistance.
Ayesha has made considerable progress in her training and employment journey and has given so much to the borough and the community and expects nothing in return. Her main aim to provide the best life for her son and herself, and from what she has achieved and undertaken; she is definitely paying it forward to help others.
