Success Story

Nelly's story

Nelly Gore Bi had recently completed an AAT (Accounting qualification) and wanted to work in the financial sector but was open to working in administration. Her previous employment history has been in customer service, and she took a career break to raise her family. Nelly had been out of work for a few years, since 2019 and was undertaking several courses to get back into employment. These included the AAT qualification (Levels 1-3 and a bookkeeping and payroll course). Her case worker Roy Ramkali pointed out that on their first initial meeting Nelly was very professional in her demeanour, determined to secure employment with a focused and motivational approach.

Nelly was supported through 1-1 sessions, where her caseworker helped ensure that her CV was tailored to accounting/administration work. During one of their meetings, Nelly’s caseworker found a role that suited her and sent her CV to the Employment Engagement Officer to be considered for the role.

While waiting to hear back Nelly attended in-house employability workshops both face-to-face and online; as well as further 1-1 IAG sessions. After this, Nelly received amazing news, she was offered both positions as an Administrative Officer via Opportunity Lambeth and a position at Peckham Theatre. Roy and Nelly discussed both roles in detail to give her the best advice, Roy asked her to make a list of the pros and cons of each role and trust her gut instinct.

Nelly chose the Finance and Administration Officer role, due to her accounting qualifications, and started her role in November 2022.

Here is what Nelly had to say about the Skills & Employment job programme:

Once I started this programme, my job search was highly accelerated in comparison to before. Roy really helped me out every step, I would have not been prepared for my interviews without his support. I am grateful that he provided the tools that I needed during the 1:1 sessions and the mock interviews, and as a result, I felt more confident applying for different jobs.

The Transferable skills workshops were very helpful and informative. It gave me a clear view and a good understanding of how to answer the most important questions during work interviews. It was convivial and I had an opportunity to share my views and listen to others.
