For employers

Supporting apprentices

Grow your own talent

Supporting an apprentice is very rewarding. Managing an apprentice includes working with your apprenticeship provider to understand the course your apprentice is on and how you can best ‘bring alive’ what they’re learning in your workplace. Sharing your knowledge and the passion you have for your industry is priceless…the rest is easy!

Try to get to know a little bit about your apprentice

What has their journey been to get to this point?

How are they feeling about their new role and are there any issues you should be aware of?

Establishing a good relationship where they feel they have a confidential and safe space to talk is very important. Sharing your journey and how you overcame any challenges or achieved success is a great relational tool.

Especially for care leavers

If you are employing an apprentice who is or was in care and they choose to share this with you, then there is some extra help from the Government available to help them financially.

They could be eligible for a bursary payment of either £1,000 (if they start an apprenticeship before 1 August 2023) or £3,000 (if they start an apprenticeship after 1 August 2023).
